class details

Wednesdays 6:05pm & 7:10pm
1 Huxbear St, SE4 1EA
Brockley, South London

These classes focus on the health benefits of Tai Chi, and not the martial arts of Taijiquan, so they are suitable for complete beginners and all fitness levels.

Classes are designed so new students can join almost any week of the year through either a 5 week (consecutive) booking or a rolling monthly subscription which can be cancelled at any time.

We'll be exploring a new sequence of movements each season, focusing on a wide variety of Tai Chi principles to help relax the body, deepen the breath and calm the mind.

If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to email us at info@centraltaichi.com

Is the 5 week booking for 5 consecutive classes?
Yes.

Can I roll classes forward if I miss a session?
Sorry, that's not possible.

What happens if I can't attend a class during this period?
The benefits of Tai Chi come from regular practice and to help you maintain your practice you can choose one of the following options in case you can't attend a class on a Wednesday evening:
  1. You can request to attend an online class (covering the same material as the Wednesday night class that you will be missing) held live on Zoom from 12–1pm on the Tuesday of the week of your missed session.
  2. You can request 1 week's access to the recording of that week's online lesson (this is a recording of the above online class which covers the same material as the Wednesday evening class that you will be missing) so you can catch up with the class in your own time.

The above options are available for both a 5 week booking and to those with a monthly membership.

What should I wear?
Any loose, comfortable clothing that won't restrict your movement is fine, but bring several layers to avoid feeling cold during the session.
Any sneakers or flat soled, comfortable shoes will be ok.

Are there changing rooms at the venue?
There aren't any changing rooms at the venue so please arrive in your training clothes.

Are lockers available for my valuables?
Please avoid bringing valuables to class as there aren't any lockers, but you can place your belongings on chairs along the back or side of the venue.
It is not possible to place items (including towels and water bottles) on the floor next to your feet during the session as it presents a risk of tripping over for you and others.

Will you be teaching martial arts exercises or spiritual practices?
No – we only explore gentle health-focused relaxation exercises in these classes.

I'm anxious about my first class, I haven't done anything like this before!
It's normal to feel a bit nervous before your first class but don't worry:
  • Most of the students in the class will also be beginners and the classes are very relaxed and supportive.
  • Most exercises are very gentle and easy to perform and you will be shown adjustments you can make if you find any movements too challenging.
  • We never put students on the spot or force them to perform any exercises they are uncomfortable with as the aim of the class is to relax and de-stress.

We look forward to seeing you in class!
